I had spent the past 2 years considering having cosmetic surgery. I had done quite a bit of research and consideration in having the work done in the USA. I had seen an article on traveling outside the US and decided to contact Premier MedEscape. I was very impressed with the knowledge of their staff, especially Lourdes Gasparoni. She was able to answer all of my questions. She was very precise in providing me with a clear picture of the details that were involved and coordinated the entire trip. I decided to travel to San Jose, Costa Rica where I had Brachioplasty (arm lift) and Gunecomastia (removal of fat and loose skin from the upper body) due to massive weight loss in August of 2008. I went back and had a total lower body lift in January of 2009. I liked the fact that Premier MedEscape was able to provide me all of the doctor’s credentials and experience. I was also pleased that Lourdes was calling me everyday before and after the surgery. She also called after I got home to check on me. I traveled to San Jose, Costa Rica for various dental work. I had obtained a quote in California for over $25,000 and paid about 30% of that with all of my travel related expenses included. My “Premier Med Escape” experience was a fabulous one! The accommodations
in Bogota were modern and nice and near the doctors and the hospital.
The Premier Med Escape nurse was wonderful from the airport pick-up, through the 8 day stay.
The doctors in Bogota, Columbia were professional, spoke English and I had great follow-up care. Dr. A. was an artist. The accompanying anesthesiologist was extremely thorough. Also, the dermatologist, Dr. P., was wonderful during my facial CO2 fraccionated laser treatment which cost me a small percentage of U.S. prices! I even indulged in a laser hair removal treatment at a nearby mall for a low price. Lourdes, at Premier Med Escape, communicated frequently with me and the nurse to ensure that I was well while all of the doctors were monitoring my recoveries. Overall this was a great experience with top notch nursing and medical care. I highly recommend Premier Med Escape and the services they provide. I am sure that I will be a repeat customer.

Well we made it! My bariatric surgery in San Jose, Costa Rica was a great success and my husband, Stan and I had a wonderful time. It was probably one of our better vacations. We arrived on Wednesday and Carlos, the concierge, was waiting at the airport to take us to the hotel. The hotel and pool area were lovely. Thursday morning pre-operative tests began at Clinica Biblica. Starlene, with the hospital International Department, grew up a missionary kid in Costa Rica and it was her job to work us through the hospital, speaking for us, getting us where we needed to be, etc. She was a professional with a warm personality - she did her job well. I had blood work, an electrocardiogram and an endoscopy. I wrapped up the day by seeing the nutritionist who gave me my post-surgery instructions.Friday we had free. We visited one of the volcanoes and then the waterfall gardens.
At the waterfall gardens we walked through an Aviary and a butterfly habitat. These were all pretty amazing. We arrived at the hospital on Saturday morning and the surgery began around 10:00. I do not remember recovery. The surgeon, Dr. Zafrani was great-very personable, skilled, genuine, etc. He reported that the surgery came off without a hitch. He performed a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I now have a banana-shaped stomach. I kept waiting for the physical discomfort I was amazed that there was none. I was released to return to the hotel on Sunday.Monday, a home health nurse came to the hotel to change my dressing and check my progress. She was an angel.
My energy level was at about 90% that day. I received telephone calls from Dr. Zafrani, the hospital administrator and Premier MedEscape, all checking in to make sure we were well - very impressive. We went to the Central Market in San Jose that afternoon. (This is a huge warehouse setup where vendors sell everything imaginable in very close quarters.)By Tuesday I felt back to my old self. The nurse returned once more to change my dressing. We then spent the morning reading by the pool and the afternoon at the Multiplaza, a large mall. I watched Stan enjoy some great-looking food that week. I had bullion, jello, juice, and broth (sipping my way through Costa Rica.) Wednesday we returned to the hospital for a final visit with Dr. Zafrani. Starlene, of course, was there to escort us. Dr. Zafrani removed the drain from my side, I didnt feel a thing. He said I would have 2 or 3 more days of light drainage and then it would heal up by itself. I had a little drainage on the bandage he applied, no more after that. I was released by the hospital that day.We went back to the hotel, packed an overnight bag and headed w/Carlos to Jaco Bay Beach, about three hours away. This resort was very modest, no telephone or TV, but our room opened up right onto the beach. Stan played in the surf and I read a book under a palm tree. We explored the tiny village of Jaco, which exists on tourism many shops and good food. We went on a canopy tour on Thursday. FUN! On Friday morning, we left for the airport at 6:00 and arrived home at 4:00 pm. We could not have asked for a better trip. Everything went smoothly, even the weather was cooperative. The concierge's knowledge of the area and its people made our sightseeing much more interesting and fun. We worried about nothing. The hospital was immaculate and well organized. I would definitely go there again.
We had a wonderful experience.I want to especially thank you Lourdes, you did a super job! I am definitely going to call you for our next premiermedescape. My husband, Stan jokes that next we should have his and hers face lifts.

I just got back from Colombia, getting a procedure done with the help of Premier MedEscape. It was my first invasive surgical procedure, and done overseas at that!

Where do I begin? I feel it is important for you to understand that I have learned a lot about the often-used term “Medical Tourism”. Every day, I learn something new that I believe is important in the entire process.
I guess I should begin with my first experience with cosmetic surgery in 2005. I had my work done in Coral Gables, FL by a doctor that had been recommended to me by my sister-in law. I must admit that I was quite naïve to the whole process. I familiarized myself with his credentials and had received some glowing feedback from people that had used him. For me, that was enough to make my decision.
I was pleased with the results, but two things bothered me about the experience, the cost and the little accessibility (before and after) I had with the doctor.
About a year later, I watched a program on TV about Medical Tourism. The concept was intriguing and I wanted to learn more about it. Then, I was at a family function and was shown an article in the newspaper about the same topic. About the same time, I was considering some additional cosmetic surgery so I wanted to check out what all of the “hype” was about.
When I first started researching, I said to myself, “Am I nuts?” Why would I want to leave my safe and familiar surroundings to have a medical procedure done outside the US? I can certainly find a doctor with great credentials right down the road.
But those 2 nagging things that bothered me from my first experience made me keep researching.
I started evaluating the doctors and I learned that there are many with comparable credentials outside of the US. I started contacting them and was surprised at how accessible they were in corresponding and speaking to me directly.
I decided that in order to allay my fears about traveling outside the US, I had to meet them. In fact, I decided to meet quite a few. While I was there, I also wanted to examine the facilities (hospitals and clinics) where they do their work. I met many, some were what I would have expected to find at home, and some weren’t. But once I realized that my concerns about safety and quality of care were unfounded, the decision to have cosmetic surgery abroad became an easy one. Obviously, the cost savings is what everyone hears about, but for me, I needed to do my homework first.
Needless to say, I am very pleased with having traveled abroad for my surgery. There is so much more about creating a great experience and I believe there is a story to be told that I'd like to share with you. Looking forward to it!
