Medical Services…
El Salvador is fast becoming a very popular destination for Medical Tourism. Health care in El Salvador is considered to be of high standards and is offered at very competitive prices. Due to it s location and it s size, the medical community works very closely together to make it stylish and very specialized towards travelers looking for outstanding medical care. The term “boutique” is very appropriate due to the elegance of the country’s focus to outstanding service. It has become accustomed to this due to the largest U.S. Embassy in Latin America being located in San Salvador. El Salvador welcomes it s visitors with open arms and it s close ties to the United States, including it s currency which is the US Dollar. With the stability of government and less political unrest, El Salvador is becoming a popular gem for medical tourists. Many doctors have trained and studied in the United States, access to the latest state of the art technologies and the beauty of its people and the country are making it a popular destination for dental and medical procedures. |
El Salvador is one of the most densely populated countries in Central America. The country borders the Pacific Ocean between Guatemala and Honduras. With a population of approximately 5.8 million people, it is the most densely populated nation in Central America and is undergoing rapid industrialization. El Salvador was once a major coffee center, and coffee influences the way of life, the scent in the air and the attitude of the people. A wide mix of ethnic groups dominated largely by the Spanish and expatriate refugees, give this country its unique and rich cultural heritage. The population is friendly and fun loving and welcomes tourists with open arms. |

With a favorable tropical climate, temperatures do not vary too much with changing seasons. The volcanic landscape is breathtaking and makes for a popular tourist attraction. The jagged mountains and calm waters of the lakes on one end are a lovely contrast to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean on the other end. Another interesting aspect of this tourist destination is the mystical ruins of the Mayan culture found in the region. This civilization is said to have been lost mysteriously in time and always fascinates casual tourists and explorers alike.
Most North American and European tourists are seeking out El Salvador's beaches and nightlife. Besides these two choices, El Salvador's tourism landscape is slightly different than those of other Central American countries. Because of its geographical size and urbanization, there aren't many nature-themed tourist destination such as ecotours or archaeological monuments. Surfing, however, is a natural tourist sector that is gaining popularity as more surfers visit El Zonte, Sunzal, and La Libertad, surfing spots that are not yet overcrowded. Also, the use of the United States dollar as Salvadoran currency and direct flights of 4-6 hours from most cities in the United States are important things to note for first-time travelers from the United States. Urbanization and Americanization of Salvadoran culture has also led to something else that first time tourists might be surprised to see: the abundance of American-style malls, stores, and restaurants in the three main urban areas, especially greater San Salvador.
Transportation in this relatively small country is easy, and getting to famous sights will be a breeze. Lake Coatepeque and Chalchuapa are some for the famous ones while San Salvador's Pacific coast rival the best ones in the world. The natural beauty-volcanoes, coffee plantations, and isolated beaches makes for a good environment to take a rest and appreciate nature too.

Diego de Holgiun became the first mayor of San Salvador as the town was founded on April 1, 1525. However, in the sixteenth century, it was rebuilt and changed locations twice afterwards 1528 and 1545. Originally founded in what is now the archaeological site Ciudad Vieja, north of the present-day city, it was moved to the Valle de Las Hamacas or the Acelhuate Valley, named so due to the intense seismic activity that characterizes it, which boasted more space and more fertile land, thanks to the pristine and now extremely polluted Acelhuate River. As the population of the country remained relatively small up until the early twentieth century, the city grew slowly.
Cuisine can be described as straightforward and tasty, centering around corn, beans, rice, tomatoes, and meat. Of course coffee is present, and one of the more simple, but luxurious joys of the trip.
The primary airport serving international flights in the country is Comalapa International Airport. This airport is located in Comalapa, about 30 minutes southeast of San Salvador. The airport is commonly known as Comalapa International or El Salvador International.

Spanish is the official language and therefore spoken by virtually all inhabitants (some of the indigenous still speak their native tongues, but all speak Spanish). English is also spoken by some throughout the republic. Many have studied or lived in English speaking countries (primarily the U.S., but also Canada and Australia), including many young Salvadorans deported from the United States, many of whom had grown up speaking only English. Furthermore, today all public schools teach English as a required course in both primary and secondary school.
San Salvador is mainly hot, the coldest months being November, December, January, and February. The temperature is very different at midday than midnight, the factors being the humidity levels, which vary as the day passes. San Salvador has two seasons: rainy and dry. October, November, December, January, February and March being the dry seasons, and April, May, June, July, August and September the rainy.
To enter the country, U.S. citizens must present a current U.S. passport and either a Salvadoran visa or a one-entry tourist card.
